Metropolia

The city hovers authoritatively overhead. A unique view of the colossus in which most of us live. An icon of today’s city in a regular turning rhythm every moment links a new event to itself. The rotating frequencies contain visual and symbolic rhythms of present-day cities. But mostly from Shanghai and Prague. An abstract story of a universal city culminates in several phases and then sinks back into darkness. It’s as if a charge of energy left the space and then after a while returned for another hypnotic cycle.

The relief projection surface is created by a circular construction from the packages of real products originally manufactured in China. This often works as an art object itself, as an illuminated physical casing or it can give space to the projected image.

The aim is to encourage people to confront the city as a whole and to take advantage of its potential (dual) energy, which unfortunately usually manifests itself negatively, for instance on a person’s psyche. Another aim is to find in oneself a positive approach to the city as an inevitable mechanism of today’s society.

Metropolia

Rotující frekvence obsahují vizuální i symbolické rytmy současných měst.

Cultures and Anomalies

Cultures

A world of many cultures appearing from afar more like micro-organic cultures. A semi-transparent structure derived from plant cell casings is filled with the rhythm and natural bustle of everyday life and cultural traditions. The natural sky in the upper part connects to the neutral middle area of the whole all the way to the root part of the controlling system.

Anomaly

An anomaly of unknown origin disrupts a relatively stable structure, just as it unexpectedly happens in all systems. The origin or diagnosis of this problem becomes, even in a relatively artificially created world, all the more complicated and can be guessed. An example can also be the financial crisis which, in this phase of evolution, appears more like a natural catastrophe, whose inevitability we can again only suspect, but it is not in our power to effectively intervene against the inaccessible whole from which it comes.

Kultury a Anomálie

Kultury

Poloprůhlednou strukturu vycházející z obalů rostlinných buněk vyplňuje rytmus a přirozené hemžení z běžného života i kulturních tradic.

Auras of Communication

The seemingly solitary islands of civilization are closely linked and communicate with each other. Many things carry around them a charged energy full of enigmatic emotions and other information that is not visible by the mere eye. These can even be auras whose existence is proven and even measurable particularly around living creatures.

The dynamic, albeit immobile assemblage of toys on the surface of the objects stylizes contemporary society. They create clusters similar to planets, cities or a segment of a closely bound atomic structure. On the whole they show principles or relations that are not apparent around us at first glance, but we know or feel that they have an important function. An example is the question of the presence of a major black whole in space or, for instance, the “unexplored” storage of information in the DNA code which apparently does not have a function. Nevertheless, the strength of a person’s thoughts plays an enormous role in the resulting intricate whole of natural relations. Sent thoughts, emotions and other energy mingle in society, react in this collective consciousness and then return like a boomerang.

Sign language symbolism is intentionally used in the installation for subliminal communication. It has a delayed dispersal as in nature. Each diffusing wave represents a single word that is related to the given theme.

Auras of Communication

Year: 2009
Technique: Videosculpture

The work Processes contemplates the frailty of values that change in the course of life. I created a lab remotely suggestive of a chemistry set with a lot of test tubes. Things that go on in this kind of places in general are hard to grasp for an outsider. Substances interact, alter, change color, condition, burn or even explode. This notion of a lab became the basis of Processes.

I recorded a number of sets, where values, normally incarnated in money, alter and interact in peculiar transparent containers. The containers are mouldings of served out everyday objects and give their shape (design) to further imagery (life). The plexi glass relief becomes a transparent skin, animated by the light imagery (the value phantoms).

Animation series run in different ways anti-clockwise. Values concerning what we usually call “wealth”(money) from the left, by means of filters, often natural, alter towards the right and evoke things like counting of buttons or spikes. At the end all of it gets lost in a dark whirl, where it’s hard to see what happens next. This is an allusion to the crisis we are going through. To me it seems to be a normal natural phenomenon.

My work is a study of the metamorphosis of values and priorities in life.

Iillusional videosculpture with the rotation scructure under the surface of the stone. I found the inspiration in the center of our Earth where is the pith levitate separately. I try to show the emotion that the rock-bottom stand-alone like independent live structure.

New reality sometimes appears to be ephemeral. Illusion intertwines with reality. Information is now constantly being stored – deposited – in digital form for perpetuity. The principle of intangible digitalisation is also one that is most often employed in the transcription of this new reality. Active Sediment is a metaphor for my feelings and for what is happening around us. Just as information about an ancient event is recorded in a layer of rock, the digital reality of our era is ceaselessly being stored in some location. Everything we see, all that we come into contact with, is being passed on and has some kind of influence on the future. All that we emit bundles together to form a fertile layer, spawning further evolution. Thus for me even this apparently immaterial digital illusion constitutes a reality that is physically stored for eternity, as if in an active stratum. This is the sediment of our present era, of one stage of our superorganism’s natural development.

A video with real audio is projected into fragments of crafted stone, forming an animation inside a real piece of rock. Wandering particles are organized into a cyclic loop, an eternal loop within a fixed geological skin, an apparently permanent structure of solid matter that is in reality interwoven, as if every particle was coming into contact with all others at the same time.

Just as information about an ancient event is recorded in alayer of rock, the digital reality of our era is ceaselessly being stored in some location. In this work, a video consisting of a randomly selected television programme disseminates through rock according to a principle similar to those guiding a tremor propagating through the earth or communication between the smallest particles in nature. A principle akin to that of a relay, or the chain reaction of tumbling dominos.

I randomly selected a broadcast television programme. For me that serves as a kind of symbol or artefact of our time. Its effect, spread around the entire world, in principle has an unfailing influence on a lot of people and has the potential powerfully to change the collective consciousness of our planet.

The television emitter that people sometimes powerlessly and unwittingly stare at, sometimes even as though gazing at an omniscient light, is overcharged in this hypnotic vortex. A fundamental difference, for example, from the Internet is that we can only listen to this one-way vortex but there is no way that conversely through it we can respond. Thus I aim to emphasise it here with respect to the position of the ordinary viewer as something that is an already uncontrollable natural phenomenon, full of colours, rhythms and authentic sounds.
